Description
Mount Mitchell (2,037 m) is the highest peak east of the Mississippi River, located in Mount Mitchell State Park in North Carolina. The summit is accessible by a paved road from the park entrance and by several hiking trails. A short paved walk from the parking area leads to the observation deck with sweeping views over the Blue Ridge Mountains. It is the most visited high point in the eastern US.

Paved road to summit parking — 5-minute walk to observation tower. State Park entrance fee ($7/vehicle). Restaurant and museum at summit open seasonally. Hiking trails: Old Mitchell Trail (moderate, 8 km). Blue Ridge Parkway links multiple trailheads. Year-round access; snow possible November–March.
