Description

Sněžka (1,603 m) is the highest mountain in the Czech Republic and the Giant Mountains (Krkonoše) range, straddling the Czech-Polish border. Its distinctive rounded summit hosts a meteorological station, post office, and a saucer-shaped restaurant designed by Czech architect Karel Hubáček in 1976. The mountain sees up to half a million visitors per year and is accessible by cable car from Pec pod Sněžkou.

Important Information

National Park — marked trails compulsory. Cable car from Pec pod Sněžkou (€12 return). Polish border on summit; passport not required within Schengen. Strong winds and fog frequent even in summer. Post office at summit sends uniquely postmarked letters. Season: year-round (snowshoes in winter).
